This post is probably different from all previous posts. I just decided that instead of having two seperate blogs, I should just post in one place regardless of the theme of the post.

For some reason my internet browser kept showing me Qtel's censorship page every time I tried to open my blog. I refresh, and it's gone. I hope this is just hiccups my Firefox is having. Otherwise it would be a little ironic after my post about censorship [LINK].

My latest gadget has been the GoPro HD camera. This little toy is incredible. It has so many accessories and it can be mounted on almost anything! [GoPro]

I just wanted to post some of the photos and a video I took last week. Hopefully more stuff will be coming up.

I don't know if you've seen this one before

This photo was taken in Marina Mal in Kuwait. I don't know if they still have that. I thought it was sexist and unnecessary.

This other photo, however, shocked me. I was dropping a friend of mine to his house and I took this photo of the house across the street.

It doesn't say it in english but in arabic it says "No parking for non-qataris". This is wrong on so many levels. I need to mention that this neighborhood doesn't have many Qataris living in it and this particular street has many Indians. I should also mention that the owner of the house walked up to me once when I was waiting for my friend out side the house and asked me where I was from.

It's ok if you don't want people to block the entrance of your house but this has nothing to do with their nationality! I thought of parking there and leaving my car overnight just to see his reaction.

Today's Cartoon

I can understand the intention behind this cartoon and the cartoonist's concern about the cleanliness of the streets and roundabouts. Abdulaziz Sadiq is a Qatari artist/musician whose work is regularly published in Al-Raya newspaper. Despite that some of his cartoons can be seen as offensive by some none Arabs, his work usually delivers important messages.

In this particular cartoon, Sadiq shows some workers, from the look I'd say from India or Nepal, laying in a roundabout to rest with their trash littering the place. So why Friday?

Friday is when most workers (usually Asians) get their day off and tend to go out for the weekend just to change some scenery away from the construction dust. Friday is also a family day in most malls and public parks. Family day in Qatar means only women and Qatari and white people are allowed in. The exception might also include well dressed arabs. This excludes most other workers who are usually too busy with their jobs to come to places like this.

The Problem? Well, I can tell you that this problem will get worse and, in my opinion, obvious reason behind this. Workers have a day off and they can't hangout in usual hangouts, roundabouts seem to be a good choice. With the new law banning workers from residing in "family neighborhoods", most of these workers will have to move to remote areas. This will not solve the problem. When they get their weekly break, they'll try to find a ride to Doha and get their cut of the weekend. Commuting back and forth might not be feasible for most of them and this keep them in their hangout spots for longer periods.

I see many Qataris throw trash out of their cars. So I don't think this cartoon was intended to deliver a "do not litter" message to the addressed people because in any case, they can't read the cartoon! Then what is the idea behind it? Suggesting banning these from more places on weekends? or perhaps suggesting a curfew after a certain time on Fridays?

Movies in Villagio

If you've been to the movies at Villagio mall you probably have noticed the crappy sound distribution in the theater. Most of the sound effects / music coming from the front with the volume tuned up to the max.. just a prescription for headache.

What can be more annoying are those lights at the bottom corners of the screen. sometimes blue and sometimes red, depending on the LED rope lights they use in the theater. i don't know what's the point of using these lights. You still can't see the row letter to find your seat and they have to hire people with annoying flashlights to point people to their seats.

the black is never black anymore. Red is the new black at Villagio.

The exit signs used to be a problem when they first opened. This was my main problem with City Center's theater when they first opened too. They managed to solve this problem.

I'm waiting for them to replace those lights and let us have a nice movie experience. It's enough that we have to deal with those retards talking at the movies.

In The Movies

Oh god, I just love to complain..

And when it comes to going to the movies I can complain all day. However, I'll try to ignore the fact that people in this place can't whisper.

What I hope I can find an answer to is the secret behind people leaving the theater before the movie ends. I just don't get it, if you paid 35 riyals, why would you leave the movie 10 or 15 minutes before the end? This time I CAN generalize.. Why do QATARIES do this? I'm sure I wasn't the only one to notice that.

No matter how good the movie is, they keep leaving and sometimes disturbing other people.

In a country where the surface shows passion and enthusiasm about education and freedom of all kinds, there seems to be a bit of a problem on some freedom issues.

If you live in Qatar and tried to "google" something, the results you'll get will be totally different from the results you'd normally find somewhere else. That's simply because our beloved ISP is forcing us to have the "safe search" option enables. What they don't understand is that Google is just a search engine. If they want to block away pornography, they can block the websites and not Google. I guess they caught some retards looking at tiny thumbnails of naked women on Google's image search and this made them think Google was a porn site.

When is this going to stop? Youtube, which normally doesn't allow obscenity, was also modified to fit with Qtel's standards.

I just want to tell Q-tel that we're not stupid. We know that censorship is not a funny issue. They're just trying to make it some how humorous to have censored sites all over the internet with their new censorship page:

I'm not going to go into how children show learn that obscene photos and video are wrong and they're stuff they shouldn't be looking at. Keeping them jailed out is not effective. In face no1 downloads pornography from websites, people know zillion other ways to get access to these stuff. So i don't really see the point of censorship.

We have more dangerous issues to worry about like pirated material all over the internet.

طبعا الحال ما زال نفسه. نأخذ رأي شخص و كأنه هو الحل الاخير و الرأي السديد و القول المنيع لمجرد ان نحن نعرف هذا الشخص ملتحي. وكونه سعودي طبعا يعطي الامر جدية اكثر في نظر الكثير من العامة. لا ادري ما اقول عن هذا الهراء المكتوب. و كأن السعوديات لهن احكامهن الخاصة لانهم من "اهل الدين" اما باقي المسلمين فهم مستسلمون (على منوال العرب المستعربة ). سواء خادمة او عاملة نظافه فهي ما زالت مهنة.
ما يضحك في الموضوع هو تفسيره لسلوكيات البنات. لو كان هناك اي مفر من هذا السجن لكان الحال مختلف. المهنة الوحيدة للسعوديات هي ممرضة او مدرسة. تدرس بنات حتى يكبرن و يصبحن مدرسات و يدرسن مدرسات .. فهي دائرة
البنات يجب ان يكون لديهن حس بالمسؤولية و القيام بالبيت؟ و ماذا عن الشباب؟ يتزلجون بالسيارة في الشوارع او في البحرين معظم الوقت.

انا طبعا ضد الاتكال على الخادمات. لكن مسألة الشغل حلال و حرام؟ هذه هي عبادة الرهبان. و من يكون هو حتى نعتبر رأيه الشخصي اسلوب حياة؟
يتكلم عن العادات و التقاليد و الدين. و الشىء بالشيء يذكر.. كنت في اندونيسيا قبل اسبوع و رأيت مسلمين غير المسلمين المتسعودين. رأيت دين سلام و محبة و تفاهم و مسؤولية.
هذا موضوع اخر احب اتكلم عنه اكثر في موقف آخر.

هههههه لا و يحط شروط بعد. يعني اذا ٤٩ سنة و محتاجة الفلوس حرااام تشتغل.

So what’s the convention on holding the door for other people in this part of the world? How far behind you the person has to be in order for you to hold the door open until they get to the door? Or should I just be holding the door until someone passes by and takes care of it?

I’m writing this post while in class, pretending to be taking notes. I needed to write something before the idea cools off. As I was running to class, a Qatari girl was walking behind me. I open the door to enter the building and hold it open for few seconds for her to enter. Guess what happened to me for the 3rd time this week? She did NOT say thank you or even gesture it in anyway! This happened to me several times before. I just don’t understand why is it so hard to thank people who do you a little polite thing.

I read a post on Mimiz Blog a while ago and she mentioned how she felt insulted when a person sat in the library with the bottom of that person’s shoes was pointing to her. We consider this rude, but not saying thank you is not rude in any way.
Where did this habit come from? I’m sure it’s neither culture nor religion. I’m not talking about holding doors. I really couldn’t care less if they thanked me or not. I care about the general courtesy between us. What kind of society is that? I noticed this in restaurants, gas stations, star bucks and other places. And guess what? It’s the Qataris that do this most of the time. And to be more accurate, the girls do it more than the guys.

Again, don’t get me wrong with the generalizations. What i mean is that mong the people who have this ugly habit, Qataris are the majority. It doesn’t mean all Qataris do this.

So what’s the deal about that? I mean did we forget how to live happily with each other? Did we start to think that people are obligated to serve us and we don’t need to thank them? What kind of ugly society we’re turning to if we didn’t have common courtesy.

هذا لقاء مع الدكتوره ابتهال الخطيب. كلامها عجبني و اعتقد ان الناس فاهمينها غلط و قاعدين يهاجمونها.

و هذا كان تعليقي في احد المدونات:

انا شفت الاجزاء كلها من ١ لـ ١١ و انا انتظرها تقول شي غلط !
بالعكس كانت في قمة الاخلاق و الادب و ما قالت شي و لا غلطت على حد.

تكلمت عن فصل الدين عن السياسة لان السياسة الدينية تنقص من الدين و تشوه سمعته و تفرض نفسها على كل الناس بمخلتف توجهاتهم. و ان الخلاف الشيعي السني راح ينحل بمجرد فصله عن السياسة. مافي اي واحد يخالف هالشي.

تكلمت عن احترام الاراء و السماح بالحوار و كانت ضد منع الحرية الفكرية و كانت مع حرية اعتناق الافكار و التوجهات و الاديان. في حد يقدر يقول هالكلام غلط؟ ديننا يجبر نفسه على الناس؟

و تكلمت و قالت ان الدين جزء من الحياة و اللي هي تطالب فيه هو فصل الدين عن السياسة.

تكلمت عن البحث و القراءة و الجري وراء الحقيقة بل ما نتلقاها من غيرنا. و نحن على اذاننا غشاوة .. نسمع اللي نبيه من دينا و نرفض اللي نحن نبيه .. لكن لما غيرنا يسوي نفس الشي نزعل.

والله كلامها كان حلو و مفيد. بس انتو يا جماعه مب لازم توافقون على كل شي تقوله. اذا قالت شي عجبكم اسمعوه و اذا ما عجبكم روحوا انتو تكلموا و قولوا غيره. مب لازم نكون كلنا مقل ثلاجة البيبسي كلنا نشبه بعض. الاختلاف موجود و قمعه غلط!

هي مثلا مثلي تؤيد “الثقافه” الجنسيه و ليست الاباحة. و انا اؤيدها لان اذا ما كان في ثقافه تدرس راح يتحول المجتمع الى مجتمع اباحي مثل ما قاعد شوي شوي يصير مجتمعنا يصير حيواني.

الله يهديكم .. لا تكونون مثل الذين وضعوا اصابعهم في اذانهم و استغشوا ثيابهم و اصروا و استكبروا استكبارا!
افهموا وجهة نظر الغير ترى مب كل شي تسمعونه من ربعكم صح.

تلك عبادتهم

هذا حديث اتوقع انه مشهور لدى الكثيرين. بحثت عنه بصيغته الكامله و هذا هو:

ال الله جل وعلا: اتَّخَذُوا أَحْبَارَهُمْ وَرُهْبَانَهُمْ أَرْبَابًا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ [التوبة:31]، ولما قرأ رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم هذه الآية عند عدي بن حاتم الطائي -وكان نصرانياً- قال عدي بن حاتم : يا رسول الله! ما عبدناهم! قال: (بلى. ألم يحرموا عليكم الحلال ويحلوا لكم الحرام فاتبعتموهم؟ قال: بلى. قال: تلك عبادتهم).

تذكر معي ذاك الذي حرم التصوير
تذكر معي من اوجب النقاب
تذكر معي من منع و قتل و زجر بسبب فتوى و "رأي" شيخ ما.

شيخ و كأن الشيخ يوحى اليه فيفتي. فهو ليس انسان يفكر و يستنتج بطريقته. بل هو حفيد الانبياء و ورث منهم الوحي و الالهام الرباني.
و طبعا ورث منهم من يتبعون كل حرف ينطقه هذا الشيخ المبجل. فالشيخ قال ان الغش في امتحان "لغة الكفار" جائز و هنا ينتهي حد تفكيرنا لأن الشيخ افتى.

احذروا عبادتهم. ابحث و فكر بطريقتك. استنتج بنفسك.

من منا لم يقرأ:
“وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ رَبِّ أَرِنِي كَيْفَ تُحْيِي الْمَوْتَى قَالَ أَوَ لَمْ تُؤْمِنْ قَالَ بَلَى وَلَكِنْ لِيَطْمَئِنَّ قَلْبِي قَالَ فَخُذْ أَرْبَعَةً مِنَ الطَّيْرِ فَصُرْهُنَّ إِلَيْكَ ثُمَّ اجْعَلْ عَلَى كُلِّ جَبَلٍ مِنْهُنَّ جُزْءاً ثُمَّ ادْعُهُنَّ يَأْتِينَكَ سَعْياً ; (آية 260).

فالبحث و التأكد واجب ولو تهرب الكثيرين من تفسير هذه الاية . و ديننا دين علم و علماء وما هو دين جهل و ظلام.
فالتساؤل و الشك في كل شيء ليس بعيب و لا هو حرام.

ولقد يحرم الناس بعض هذه الاشياء؟ اهناك ما يُخاف ان يُكشَف؟ اهناك ما قد يشكك الناس في دينهم؟ اديننا ناقص و ليس علينا ان نبحث فيه؟

بدل ان نفخر بمنطق ديننا صرنا مثل النصارى نتبع رهباننا و قسواستنا. نهضم كل ما يدسونه في حلوقنا.

I understand that some people don't have the time to go to McDonald's and order their Big Mac, so instead they send the glorified driver to do it for them.

You're telling me now those don't have the time or can't bother to get a little piece of paper and write their order on it? They have to let the driver hand the guy at McDonald's his cell phone so they can order their extra calories.

Whatever.. every one is free to do whatever they want, right?

ok so here's what ticked me off..

I go to Subway.. I see a Land Cruiser (of course) with a lady sitting in the back..Honking for the guy in Subway to come out and take their order!
For God's sake, this is Subway.. you're supposed to move your lazy ass and get your own shit!

and then they're all surprised when they read tht 80% of people in Qatar are over weight and the vast majority of them are WOMEN!

الرجيم النبوي؟

ما زلت احاول ان افهم و اتقبل عقلية هؤلاء المتشبتين في ما يسمونه هم الطب النبوي
و طبعا يأتينا معه طب الاعشاب و الطب الشعبي و غيره

و كأن انواع الطب الاخرى هي الطب الكفري و الطب النبوي هو الصحيح الشافي

فخلط الحبة السوداء مع العسل هو الدواء الشافي لكل داء. سبحان الله و ننسى ان ديننا يأمرنا بالبحث العلمي و الكتشاف و تطور هذا الطب الذي اصبح بالنسبة لدينا كطب رجل الكهف.
نتصرف كتلك الطائفة - ولا يحضرني اسمها- التى ترفض اخذ الدواء المصنع لانه ليس طبيعيا.
نحن مثلهم تماما لكن الفرق ان ديننا يأمرنا ان نفعل العكس. ولكن كما جرت العادة الدين هو اول ما نرمي به عرض الحائط عندما لا نحتاجه.

انا موضوعي عن حديث المقدام بن معدي كرب المشهور. حديث كان المفرض اكتب عنه في بداية رمضان لكنه لم يخطر ببالي.
حديث جميل و يلخص موضوع التخمة في الاكل. هم عبارة عن برنامج رجيم نبوي.

روى أحمد والترمذي عن المقدام بن معدي كرب رضي الله عنه قال " قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم - ما ملأ آدمي وعاءً شراً من بطنه بحسب ابن ادم أكلات يقمن صلبه فإن كان لا محالة فثلث لطعامه وثلث لشرابه وثلث لنفسه" وهو صحيح

Ramadan night, a million assignments are due on the last week before Eid break.

Obnoxious people in the library, i have to read every sentence 3 times to finally hear myself thinking. Pandora.com is not the most helpful tool either when you're studying something new.

I hear the sound of wood knocking on wood, three knocks. Sounds familiar? It's the sound you hear when someone hits his pipe (midwa5) against an ashtray to clean it up. I know this sound very well.
Sniff, Sniff. Smells like tobacco. I know that smell; i'm sick of it.

I started to remember my cousin when he smokes while..

WAIT A SECOND ? I'm in the library, aren't? WTF?

I turn around, and guess what? A guy smoking, hid his head when he saw me looking at him.

I don't even need to mention this, you have already guessed guessed..

قيل عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أنه قال: المؤمن كيّس فطن. رواه الديلمي عن أنس رضي الله عنه مرفوعا، وهو حديث ضعيف كما قال العجلوني في كشف الخفاء وغيره.

من الطرف التي تحكى ان طالبا اجتهد في شرح الحديث لكنه قرأه (المؤمن كِيس قطني) و حب انه يتفلسف و يعقب فشرح كيف ان قلب المؤمن أبيض مثل القطن.

في الصيف اخذت مادة عن الحكومة الامريكية و اقسامها. ومن الاشياء اللي ذكرت في الصف ان المدن و الولايات لها الحق في اختيار قوانينها ما لم تتعارض مع قوانين الحكومة الفيدرالة.
و ذكر مثال عن اليانصيب و كيف ان في بعض المناطق تمنع اليانصيب لانه مقامرة و اهالي المنطقه عندهم القمار حرام.

و الحين وصلنا لموضوعنا عن المسلم الاهبل الغبي
لا تسألوني اين ذهب المسلم الكيس الفطن فالله اعلم.

افتحوا التلفزيون..الراديو و حتى الجريده. كل قناة تتفنن في مسابقاتها. تتصل و تجاوب و تدفع ٨ ريالات على المكالمه او الرساله.
تتجمع الفلوس و يجرون سحب و يربح واحد.

قارنوها معاي .. كل واحد يدفع شوي .. يلعبون لعبة حظ و يفوز واحد و ياخذ الفلوس. نفس السيناريو و نفس الحكم. كلهم مقامرين
لا والأسوأ ان في قنوات تحط سؤال و عليه اختيارين. و للاجابة على السؤال ارسل رساله فارغه و راح تدخل السحب
وكأن القمار يجب ان يكون ((بوكر)) ليكون

اي حماقة و اي جهل هذا ؟ لا و يعصبون لما الواحد يسمع اغاني وهو صايم مع ان الكل عارف الاغاني ليست من المفطرات بغض النظر ان كان يراها البعض حراما.

المسأله لا تحتاج الى شيخ دين ليخبرنا عن ديننا. فالامر واضح مجرد التفكير لثانية واحده و راح نعرف اذا كان هذا قمار او لا. لكن مثل ما نحن نعرف امة اقرأ كانت لا تقرأ والان اصبحت لا تقرأ ولا تفكر. نحتاج دائما الى من يفكر عنا. نحتاج شيخ على التلفزون ليخبرنا اذا كان هذا الامر حلالا ام حراما. طيب الناس ما تحتاج تفكر اذا عندها من يفكر عنها و يلقمها خلاصة تفكيره. اكثر من مرة كل سنة يتصل شخص في برامج الفتاوى و يسأل عن حكم هذا و يجاوبه من يسمي نفسه شيخ بنفس الجواب.

لكن الناس كل سنه تنسى و تتنظر شخص يفكر عنها. نعبد الله على جهل. ترتفع عند الناس اسهم الايمان في رمضان و ترتفع معها اسهم الغباء في دولة اول بند في دستورها انها دولة اسلامية.

انا لا اكترث اذا قامروا او سكروا او ماتوا. انا احزن عندما ارى امة تعجز عن التفكير. تتباهى بدينها و هي اجهل الامم به.

الله يهدينا جميعا و يرجع لنا المؤمن الكيس الفطن

موضوع ثاني عن مسلسل او بالاحرى برنامج ثاني احب اتابعه كل سنه

الدكتور محمد العوضي من المفكرين اللي افتخر بوجود امثالهم بيننا
في كل رمضان يعود علينا ببرنامج يتكلم فيه عن مواضيع منوعه و كلها مهمه.
من كنت صغير و انا اشوفه في قناة الكويت و بعدين انتقل للراي
و انا صغير في حلقات ما كنت افهمها و مع ذلك كان يخلي حلقات للناس اللي كانوا بعمري ١٢ او ١١ تقريبا و مختلف الطبقات الفكريه

لسنا في معسكر يزيد ..هذا كان عنوان حلقة بيني و بينكم
حبيت اني اتكلم عن الحلقه في مدونتي ليس لاني راح انشر كلامه
انا اعرف ان اللي يقراون مدونتي ينعدون عالاصابع
انا اتكلم عنه لاني اتشرف بوضع حلقاته هنا

هذي الحلقه مهمة جدا جدا. يتكلم فيها الدكتور عن وباء كل يوم يزيد و ينتشر
اكل مجتمعنا اكثر. المفروض نتحصن ضد هذا الوباء "الاحمق" اكثر من بلبلتنا مع حمى الخنازير

بدآ حلقته بكلام حلو عن الانتماءات في كل المجتمعات و فوائد هذه الانتماءات
و بعدها استرسل و انتقل الى الموضوع الاساسي و المهم واللي المفروض كل مغفل يعرف عنه

انا شدني الموضوع لاني كنت مغفل قبل كم سنة ماضية. كنت جاهل و انا اعلم ان كثير من الناس الان ما زالوا كذلك
موضوع يوضح و يفهم و يحل مشكله كبيرة

I'm, generally, against the idea of scaring people into doing stuff. Qtel's signs at every roundabout is the stupidest thing I've ever seen. Traffic laws are there to make driving more organized and therefore, safe.

Urrgh, i'm going off track. I don't want to talk about Qtel's signs or how people hate to be organized in this part of the world. I can talk about this later.

let me jump back to my other stream of thoughts..

اكثر شي اكرهه في رمضان هو الاكل الزايد الذي يرمى كل يوم في الزبايل

و ثاني شي اكرهه هو المسلسلات. بس حتى ما تفهموني غلط ترى انا احب المسلسلات. لكن قصدي المسلسلات العربية واللي طبعا ٩٩٪ ينزل في رمضان

انا من رمضان الماضي و انا افكر في كتابة شي عن المسلسلات. لكني ما عرفت كيف ابدأ. ابدا بالقصه التافهه؟ والا بالتمثيل المتصنع الغبي؟ والا بالملابس الـ.. ما اعرف اوصفها ؟ والا الاخراج المتخلف؟ والا الحوار الممل المطول التافه؟
لكن فكرت و قلت خلهم كيفهم. كل واحد ينتج عمله على قد عقله. من زين الكتاب والا المخرجين اللي عندنا اصلاً. المشكله في الناس اللي تتابع. لليوم ما اصدق ان ممكن الله يخلق شي اسخف من المسلسل نفسه.

انا اعتذر لاني طولت. لكن ما انلام والله . صارت لي سنين و انا حابس هالقهر داخلي. لكن على العموم مثل ما يقول عنوان الموضوع راح اتوجه شوي بعيد عن السلبيه هالمرة حتى ما يفكر الناس اني اقشر و ما يعجبني شي.

انا مثل ما قلت غاسل يدي من التلفزيون من زمان. لكن البارحه كلمني واحد من الشباب و قال لي يا احمد رح شوف هالبرنامج. قلت له من يقدمه؟ قال لي احمد الشقيري. و عندها تذكرت احمد الشقيري. ما شفته السنه الماضيه لكن اتذكر لما قدم برنامجه مع حمزه يوسف و راحوا امريكا و تعرفوا على المسلمين هناك و غيره. كان يعجبني جدا هذا البرنامج.

هذي السنه الشقيري راح وين؟ الشقيري راح اليابان. حاول يوصل حضارة اليابان لنا. للي ما يعرفني ترى من الناس اللي تضحكون عليهم لما تشوفونهم يقرون قصص مصورة يابانية و اتابع انيمي. لكن هذا ما كان السبب اللي خلاني احب البرنامج. احمد عرض برناممجه تحت هدف حلو. مجرد انه يقارن بيننا و بين اليابانيين. من حيث احترامهم للناس او حبهم لشغلهم او حبهم للنظافه او احترامهم لذوي الاحتياجات الخاصه.

كل الحلقات حلوه صراحه. والحمدلله كلها موجوده على يوتيوب. احترت اي حلقه احط. لكن هذي الحلقه عجبتني شوي اكثر من غيرها.

اوه نسيت .. البرنامج اسمه خواطر و هذا الجزء الخامس.

امممـ .. ما عجبني الموضوع اللي كتبته. الكلام السلبي فيه اكثر من الايجابي ! شكلي برجع امسح شوي

I don't remember how i stumbled into this blog but I'm glad i did. I check it out every other day to see if there is anything new on it. It's nice to see that there are people who are actually "normal". People who think about what people around them do.

YES, this is another post about Qatar Living. I find shocking and surprising posts every time i take a look at their forum.

So, this what all this is a bout..

The most amazing thig happened a few minutes back " I heard a Qatari say sorry" to a asian guy.
I went downstairs to the corner shop to buy a pack of cigarette's. I was about to leave when a middle aged Qatari man entered the shop talking over his phone and ran into a asian guy ....no no not with a land cruiser he was walking this time. Yeah he ran into this guy who was standing next to the counter probably from India, Srilanka, Bangladesh etc..
Then he gently taps him on his back and says SORRY.
Probably the guy on the receving end failed to notice the importance of it.........But i did.

This was the post. I'm hoping this guy was just trying to tease people with this post.

Is this what people think of us ? Do they think Qataris are like Pepsi cans in a grocery store cooler ? WE ARE NOT ALL THE SAME !

I still don't understand why anyone would make such generalizations about anyone !

I'm not trying to say Qataris are the most polite people in the world. But Qataris are not the same. everyone is different.

I don't need to comment further. I was just pissed off at this post and other similar ones.

the lost religion

It's sad that many cultural norms are being, mistakenly, confused with religion. People don't know if what they're doing is based on a religious or cultural beliefs !

We argue over issues like growing beards, wearing ankle-short thobs and whether women should be driving or not ! We care so much for 4-digits plate numbers and some fancy brand's new handbag or shoes !

What happened to the original Islam; the religion that values courtesy and respect to one another. The religion that respect the others' points of view. Isn't that what islam is all about, teaching people how to live in a happy, smiling society ?

We pretend not to be secular, but we don't really apply religion in our lives. We started to think that religion is what people do at the mosque or it is something seasonal that happens 1 month of every year.

Isn't smiling to the person that sells you your "karak tea" part of our religion ? What about standing in line for you coffee, isn't being civilized what islam came is here to teach us ?
Fastening your seatbelt when you're driving is something Allah would want you to do !
Putting trash where it's supposed to go, isn't it this one of the fist lessons they taught us in religion class ?

This confusion is transforming the religion into something else, something that we don't believe in. We put our religion in sealed cans and use it when it's for best for our interest and hide it whenever we don't feel like islam !

I can keep going about forgotten concept of our beautiful religion. But i think the point has gotten through.

This is not only about islam, i'm sure that other religions are having similar problems. since i don't know a lot about other religions, i'd rather not to talk on their behalf. Hypocrites live everywhere and can believe in an religion !

تخيل عنقود عنب أخضر بيدك. و في هذا العنقود حبه فاسدة. هل ستتردد في قطع هذه الحبة و رميها بعيدا عن هذا العنقود ؟
فحبه فاسده لا تعني شيئا بين عنقود قطف مؤخرا. ، و عنقود فاسد لا يعني الكثير في كرم عنب.

هل تعتقد انه من العزيز على الله ان يفصلنا عن هذه الحياة و يستبدلنا بمن هم خير منا ؟

كلنا يسيء و يخطئ ولكن لكل شيء حد. قد يغفر الله لنا اذا خنا وطننا او اذا خذلنا اهلنا او خذلنا ديننا لكن عندما نصل الى خذلان انسانيتنا فمن يصلح حالنا ؟

انا لست واعضا ولا شيخ دين لكني قرأت لافتة "للعائلات فقط" على بوابة مجمع تجاري. الغريب ان رجل الامن لم يوقفني مع اني لم اكن مع عائلتي و لم اكن البس الثوب الذي قد يعتبر بطاقة مرور فوق القانون في بعض الاحيان.

اكتشفت لاحقا بأن تلك العبارة المزيفة ليست سوا تمويه لمنع الاشخاص من الطبقه العاملة من الدخول ! فاذا كنت تعمل ليل نهار في جونا اللطيف صيفا فقد اصبحت من المغضوب عليهم.

طوال الاسبوع جنود اخفياء يعملون ليل نهار. فهذا يزرع الصحراء والاخر يكنس طرقاتنا القذرة و اخر يبني بيوتنا نطاحة السحاب.
رجال تجدهم اينما التفت. بعضهم يوصل اطفالك الى مدارسهم حتى تتمكن من النوم نصف ساعة اكثر و البعض يملأ سيارتك حتى لا تتعب قدمك اللينة و اخر يجري كأنه بين الصفا ،و المروى ليأتي لك بعلبة البيبسي قبل ان تحس بالعطش.
يصلحون حواسيبنا و سياراتنا و طرقاتنا و حقول النفط

حتى نعيش مترفين لا نفكر في امور اهم من رقم سياره رباعي

نعطيهم يوما في الاسبوع ليرتاحوا. يوم مناسب فالاطفال ليسوا في المدارس و الاعمال اغلبها متوقفه.
ثم نمنعهم من التحرك ؟
فالكورنيش ممنوع المشي فيه
المجمعات التجاريه محصوره لعائلاتنا البشريه

كأن عائلاتهم ليست من البشر. ولا يحتاجون لأن يتنزهوا ولا يضحكوا ولا يتسوقوا. فهذا حق لنا نحن فقط

خلقوا ليخدمونا !

منا من نسي كيف يحك ظهره لأنه استعبد من يفعل ذلك له.

قد لا يكونوا من نفس البلد او لا يملكون في محافظهم ما نملكه او لا يتكلم،ن نفس اللغه او لا يملكون نفس عقيدتنا
لكنهم بشر و نحن نشاركهم الانسانيه. ليس من حق اي انسان في العالم ان يسلب انسانا اخرا انسانيته.

نحن لا نستطيع ان نعيش بدونهم ففد اتلفت الاموال عقولنا
لكن آمل ان منا من لم يتلف قلبه و بقيت فيه ذرة انسانية

اذا كان بلدنا بلد ينادي بحوار الحضارات و احترام الاديان فالاولى احترام ما يجمعنا و هو الانسانية

حرمناهم من ابتسامتنا و من احترامنا فمنا من تصعب عليه كلمة شكرا
كأنه سينقص اذا قالها لعامل في السوق

اذا كنت لا تهتم لأمرهم فاهتم لامر قومك. لا ترض ان ننسلخ من ديننا و اخلاقنا و انسانيتنا
افعلها لنفسك لتكون انسانا افضل.

it's hard to imagine the way our life would have been if we weren't rich. What if oil hadn't been discovered, would we be happy ?
i'm sure we wouldn't have the beautiful sky scrapers nor the fancy cars.
It's hard to imagine this.

But what if everything was as it is right now except that the wealth was shared between the people. What if no one OWNED the country. what if everyone had to work harder to get their share of this great wealth that many people don't appreciate.

Would our simple-minded people pursue better education to get their share of the wealth ?

would this pursuit of knowledge be a catalyst for the architectural and intellectual growth ? or would the money be the reason to the moral, intellectual, civilian retardation ?

I guess we all agree that a nation can advance if the had both wealth and knowledge. What what can make us happy ?

Does knowledge make us happy ? We see happy illiterate people everywhere.
Does money make us happy ? But many poor people are happy.

Is it what we do with the money that makes the difference ? or is it how we got the money ?

What is happiness anyways ? Is having an enormous amount of money happiness ? Is spending all your money happiness on stuff you want happiness ?

What makes us pathetic rich people ? maybe it's trying to live up to the "rich people standards".

what makes us pathetic poor people ? i'm sure it's trying to keep up with the rich people's standards.

Are you happy ? are you happy because ur rich ? are you smart ? are you smart because you're rich ?

It's sad that our IQs isn't measured by the amount of money in our bank accounts ? imagine how the world would be with many smart rich people ?

now let's move to another scene. Imagine a poor person that you've seen somewhere. What made you think that this person is poor ? Was it his cheap car ? or was it his non-super-sized house ? Did you take a look at his bank account ?

Maybe this person was actually richer than you thought. It's just that he was happy with what he had. His car did its job, his house was enough for him and his family. Maybe his money got him everything he wanted, it's just wasn't everything other people wanted. Maybe he didn't want to live up to anyone's standards.

Now imagine a dumb rich man. This is not a hard thing to imagine since there are plenty of those around here. What if this man was very rich and had everything he thought he wanted ? An expensive car, a huge house, yacht, jet plane and maybe another house in another country too. What if this person didn't know how to say "thank you" when people do him a service ? would you say that this is a happy person ? What if this person had the most expensive phone invented, but he didn't know how to put his favorite song as a ringtone, would you say he's happy ?

so it's not being at rich people's life standards that defines a person's happiness.

most people say it's how satisfied a person is that makes him a happy person. But I don't think being satisfied with what you have that matters, it's actually appreciating the value of everything in your life. It's appreciating the people, the things and the knowledge.

THE LITTLE KID

Today was a nice sunny day in Columbus. Nothing better than a sunny day with blue sky with some clouds here and there. the cold breeze comes filled with energy. Ah ! .. i wish it was like this all year long.

we were tossing a Frisbee next to the parking lot. It was fun and felt good to jump and run around a little. A little boy popped out of no where with a bottle that had a firefly called Max. The kid asked me if he could play with us and i said ok. I asked him about his name but his answer wasn't clear. He told me it consists of five letters. He was 7 years old, 4 ft tall with a short, spiky hair. I could tell that he was having fun, although he sucked in tossing the Frisbee. He told me that he enjoys sports and he likes "the game mexicans play". I was confused, he read that on my face and told me : "the game that they kick the ball and hit it with their heads". I knew he meant Football, or what he would call Soccer. A friend of mine got his football out of the house, which was very close, and we started passing it around.

The kid with the five letters name asked me if we were Mexicans. I told him no, and explained that we were speaking Arabic. He didn't have any idea what that meant, he just knew that it wasn't Spanish. He then shouted " You Guys are awesome !", we all laughed.
When we got tired, we sat on the pavement side and got some Pepsi and fireworks to play with. That seriously impressed the kid. he asked us if we can wake up early to play with him.

It was getting dark and we don't know where the kid's house was. I asked him about his parents. "Mom is home" he said, " Dad hates mexicans". That was interesting. I asked him why. he said "Some mexicans are good. My dad kills mexicans, he hates them. " I didn't know if i should tell him that killing people was wrong, i did it anyways. I told him that Mexicans are humans just like us, we don't want people to hate us and kill us. I dunno if he understood anything i said. My friend asked "so, where is ur father now ?".

"He's in Jail. Some people were angry and came to our house" the kid said.
" who took him ?"
" i don't know, but i think they're cops, i hate cops"
"why?"
"they're mean. they came to our house and kept yelling"
"Maybe your father did something wrong. Cops don't like bad people."
"I can burp my name, wanna see ?"

I asked him to go home and come back tomorrow to play with us. He was disappointed and walked away with his bottle very slowly.

I don't know why i wrote about this. I just thought it would be an interesting story to tell and think about. I hope he doesn't grow up to be like his father. i don't know if he arrived home safely. "I have a map drawn in my head" he told us, so he should be ok with his map. :) smart kid, i liked him.

Qatari vs. Qatari

Qatarliving.com is one of the websites that i like to take a look at once every while. It has useful information, especially for expats. It also has a forum that many expats in Qatar can share events, experiences and other stuff.

When I visit Qatarliving I generally look for complaints and incidents those expats face here in the country. Honestly, I don’t really care what they think of us (Qataris). They can always go anywhere else if they’re not comfortable in the country. However, I do care where on morals line my people stand. It should upset me when a sick citizen acts like a savage and it definitely pleases me when a Qatari man shows the generosity and kindness that, we think, we got by default from claiming to be Muslims.

I took some snap shots and I’ll like the share them with my blog.

- After telling a story of a Qatari kid driving a BMW who was making donuts, then he cut into the cars line because he couldn’t wait and finally he parked in the middle of the streat, the expats says :

Many of the forum members replied to that post and mentioned similar stories that happened to them.
one of the replies was :

- Are you offended by this question? well, you shouldn't be. Many of us give this impression very happily. The only reason for them to give this impression is that they really ARE arrogant and unfriendly.

The forum, sadly, has man questions and comments about Sexual harassments, driving morals and other stuff.

As I said I don’t really care what they think. Some of them come with the prejudice that all Qataris are rude immoral.

A big smile is drawn on my face when I read how many of them have encountered with Qataris close enough to know that they’re not all ignorant.

It’s not really about what do we want people to think of us. People’s impression is, indeed, a mirror that reflects our actions. Good morals do NOT come by default from being a Muslim or any other religion. Sadly enough, many of us might harm the image of Islam by his/her ignorant actions.

The point of this topic is pretty obvious. There is no need to add anything more to it. I, myself, would love to see all Qataries and non-Qataries happy, smiling, helping each other in this beautiful small country.
